End of Year 1 Evaluation Portfolio

This Is How We Put Together Our Evaluation Portfolio for Year 1.

How to Organize Your Evaluation Portfolio
I can’t tell you how excited I am to be at the end of the year. I don’t know about you, but I’m in need of a break.

A break from the routine, a break to enjoy a slower pace, a break to enjoy some leisure time and a break to hopefully muster up the impetus to start planning for next year.

But before we indulge in this break let’s dive into evaluations, portfolios, important documents and how to organize it all.
In case you haven’t checked it out yet, I have a video on How To Homeschool in Florida. You can check it out here.

Here's the full blog post so that you can get all the specifics.

In this video I go into lots of specifics on how we started our year to set ourselves up to start organizing right from the beginning. I’d like to show you how I’ve continued to organize and what our evaluation portfolio looks like.
So what’s really needed? And in particular Florida because that is where I am. If you need specifics on your state I highly suggest you visit the hslda website. I’ll link it below.

Now if you’re watching this video, I’m assuming you’re planning to keep an evaluation portfolio which means you’re most likely homeschooling under the homeschool statute.

That statute requires just 4 things:
  1. That you file a letter of intent at the beginning of your homeschool year.
  2. That you maintain a portfolio
  3. That you have the child evaluated at the end of the homeschool year.
  4. That you file a notice of termination

Now what to actually maintain in this portfolio?
  1. A log of educational activities
  2. A list of the books and curriculums used
  3. Samples of the students work

Pretty simple huh? Oh and you need to keep this portfolio for 2 years in case your portfolio needs to be evaluated by the superintendent or his agent.

To keep things easy for me, I made cover pages for each subject so that I could just insert things where they go as the year progressed.

I have to say, this was really very helpful. It made this last bit of organizing at the end of the year so easy.

Here's where you can get a copy of my cover pages.
